New Year Resolutions
Posted in: Personal, Web TalkThis year I decided to draw a hard line in the sand and make a couple new year resolutions. Project after project, I tried my best to satisfy each clients. Although it’s great for business relationships, I realized that I began to loose control over my work and was rarely satisified when all was said and done. I decided to make some resolutions in hopes of keeping my 2008 projects in line.
No more junk! We designers and developers are the professionals. We know how to target specific markets and what the latest trends are. With this said, I refuse to take another job where the client tries to control every aspect of the design. Creating layouts based soley on a clients idea results in a unprofessional appearance and a piece of work I wouldn’t put in my portfolio. It’s okay to turn projects down.
Content before creation. I’ve tried in the past to wait until all the content has been submitted, but i typically get ahead of myself and begin work anyway. Being ambitions usually pays off, but in this case it usually results in more work.
Enough with the endless revisions. Once the client sees a semi-funtional layouy, they usually request minor changes which are expected. Time and time again I’ll get requests to change the design after they’ve given the green light. Of course, as part of our project agreement I’ll make the change and take a hit for the countless hours redoing work.
